Goddess Band

By Serena 229

“Hey, Serena!” Lita called from the other sidewalk.

“Hey, Lita. What’s up?”  Serena asked as her friend ran across the street

“They took the contract! They want all of us to sign it right now!” She said, jumping up and down in excitement. Hugging her friend who looked cynical.

Serena’s face lit up like a light bulb. “No, Are you serious?”

“Deathly.” Serena grabbed her best friend around the neck and hugged her franticly. “Serena were gonna be Super Stars! I can’t wait to tell the others! Let’s go call them right now!” They ran off down the street laughing like schoolgirls. Serena had just hit seventeen. Her and her friends had decided to get a band together and go to the record station. Their act was already good, but they had made some changes to it before coming.

They had excepted their act, but wanted them to change their names. The girls had all been called and told of the good news. They rushed over and signed the contract as fast as they could. Well, except Serena who ran home for a snack.

“Well, we were hoping for some shorter girls, but you’ll do.” One stated rudely to Lita, who glowered.

“Sorry I’m late, guys.” Serena said before coming into the room. The men gasped, and almost started slobbering all over themselves.

“Well, miss…?”

“Serena.”

“Miss Serena, Were glad you could make it on such short notice.” One man said politely, kissing her hand. Rei turned to the others and whispered.

“Why does she get all the guys?” They nodded their heads in agreement.

“Thanks,” She pulled her hand away quickly. “I hear we need a new name, so I came up with some on the way over here. How about ‘The Scouts’?”

“No way, Serena, that one sucks!” Rei said coldly.

“Well, I knew Rei wouldn’t like that one so…”

“And in other news, Pop Super Star, Endymion has sold over twenty thousand copies of his new album. Making millions off this young stars voice may have come to an end. Anew threat comes to the prince’s throne as new hit band ‘Goddess’ has hit the top ten charts. These gutsy women may have taken the throne for themselves as they head up the ladder of stardom. Portraying the goddesses from Greek mythology, five young ladies are taking out the competition fast.

The first, on keyboard, is Mercury, Goddess of wisdom. Second on back up is Venus, goddess of love and beauty. Third, on drums, is Jupiter, Goddess of thunder and power. Fourth, also on back up and guitar, is Mars, goddess of war. And Last, but most definitely NOT least, lead singer Moon, goddess of night and friend ship. I sure hope these fabulous girls make it in this profession”

Darien Shields reached over and switched off the TV.

“Well, looks like I have some competition.”

“Hey Moon, may we have an interview?”

“Sure, I’ll be right there.”

“We have some questions that we’d like for you to answer if you could.”

“Shoot away.”

“First, everyone is dying to know, are you dating anyone?”

“No.”

“Why not?”

“Well, I guess because I haven’t found anyone my type yet.”

“What exactly is your type?”

“Well, I kinda go for tall and dark. I hate it when boys bleach their hair to be popular.”

“So you don’t like blondes?”

“No, I just don’t like it when guys try to be someone their not, that’s all.”

“Have you ever even been on a date?”

“No.”

“Why not?”

“Well, everyone thinks that physical appearance is a big thing in who they are going to marry, I don’t.”

“What do you look for?”

“He’d have to keep his hands to himself, I hate it when guys try to put the moves on you. And he’d have to know how to dance. I love to dance. He’d have to be terribly romantic.”

“Well, you’re just an innocent little thing, aren’t you?”

“What do you mean?”

“He’d have to keep his hands to himself? That’s not very ninety’s.”

“I don’t really care what’s the ninety’s, I happen to have morals. I don’t strip so people will buy my CD’s.”

“Well, I guess our last question will be if you’ve ever even been attracted to a guy.”

“Nope, not really. They’re so busy trying to get my attention, they mess up and look like fools.”

“Well, that’s all we have time for, but thanks for answering some of our questions.”

“Any time.”

“Serena, what was all that about?” Rei asked as soon as she got back.

“They wanted an interview.”

“What about?”

“Guys.” Rei laughed.

“Well, lets go. They’re going to set off the fourth of July fireworks without us!” She grabbed Serena’s hand and dragged her over to the stands.

‘Let’s see what’s so great about this one.’ Darien thought as he popped it into the CD player.  They had set it up so that each member sung two songs on the album. The first two where about stories in books, the second, about true love. Both where soft, he hated soft songs. ‘I hope the whole CD isn’t like this!’ The next two where by the drummer. She wasn’t so bad, her songs about storms and destruction. He liked destruction. Mars’s where better though, her voice almost mystical, but passionate and with a flame. Speaking of war mostly making fun of it.

He almost turned it off after that, but was frozen by a magical voice that seemed to almost float out of the boom box. Silver strands of sound seemed to wrap around his heart, pulling at it with sadness of a loved one lost long ago.

Don’t forget me

I love you so,

You said you’d save me,

That you’d come back.

As I walk by,

I see your body

It’s dead on the floor.

A love that spans a thousand years

It comes back to haunt my dreams,

You said you’d come back,

But you never did.

You knew I loved you

That I couldn’t live without you.

Death had found you alone

I wasn’t there

To keep you with me.

A love that spans a thousand years

It comes back to haunt my dreams,

You said you’d come back,

But you never did.

I couldn’t live without you

My life revolved around you

Where ever you go I would follow

So I followed for the last time

The battle finally won,

I followed where I shouldn’t have

But now, I wait to see

If you would come back to me

My knight in shining armor

I still love you

A love that spans a thousand years

It comes back to haunt my dreams,

You said you’d come back

But you never did.

I will always love you

Always.

Darien brushed tears away from his face angrily. ‘Stupid song’ but he loved it. Every single word that came from her lips had him hanging for the next. He listened to it again and again before turning it off and going to bed. Turning off the light he crept into bed to sleep but couldn’t. The song was still stuck in his head.

He slept poorly that night. Visions of monsters crept into his dream, forcing him to fight. But he couldn’t anymore. It was hopeless. Finally giving up, he died. His love was there, mourning over her loss of him. Picking up his sword, she killed herself so she could be with him.

He woke in a cold sweat, the sun blaring through the curtains overhead. Golden sunshine that made his head spin. Picking up the receiver, he quickly dialed a phone number.

“Andrew, I need to ask a favor.”

“What’s wrong, Darien?”

“Well… I would like to set up a meeting with Goddess, can you do that?”

“I’m not sure, but you might want to watch the morning news.”-Click-

Hanging up the phone, he reached over and turned on the TV.

“…So where are you going?”

“Well, I’ve decided to go back to my old town for the school year.” Serena’s face flashed across the screen, leaving Darien breathless

“Where might that be?”

“I can’t tell you. I’m doing an experiment. I’m going to dress up like a nerd and see how differently they’re treated from the rest of us.”

“How are you going to do that?”

“Serena is a master of disguise.” Rei broke in. “I wouldn’t be surprised if she fooled us into believing her.”

“Will you still be producing music?”

“Sure, might even squeeze in a concert or two.” Serena answered back.” But we really must be leaving; my flight will go without me if I’m not careful. I’ll be back in nine months.” She ran up the steps then turned waved and left. Darien hit redial.

“Yes, Darien?”

“I would like to go on vacation. Book me out in the middle of nowhere, and I’ll spend a few months there.”

“Are you ok?”

“Yeah, just need a vacation.”

“Okay, then. I’ll call you back as soon as I have the flight planned.”

Darien got up, and started working on his new image.

“Class, this is our new student, Serena Shell. Serena, say hi to the class.” She waved timidly, brownish blonde hair moving the same way. “Serena, this is our other new student, Darien Shields. He’ll show you around today. You may sit by him.” The teacher said, showing a young man with jet-black hair and dark blue eyes.

“Hi.” The girls looked mad, jealous, even.

“Hi.” She replied shyly.

“Okay, class, Take out your assignments from last week, and we’ll get started.” The class seemed to drag on forever. Serena was having a hard time trying to stay awake. Her eyes kept falling shut, and she kept day dreaming.

“Here.” Darien whispered in her ear as he gave her something to chew on “This helps. Watch out, their sour.” She popped it in her mouth, barely tasting it as she chewed. Not even fazed at the intense sour flavor. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, the bell rang, dismissing class.

“What’s your next class?”

“Choir. Do you know where that is?”

“Sure, that’s my next class. Are you any good?”

“Not really.”

“Well, we’ll find out when they test you.”

“I have to take a test??” She said somewhat scared. He laughed.

“No, they just see what class you should be in.”

“Oh.” They chatted all they way to the choir room. Darien was impressed be her wit and charm, even humor. She was absolutely hilarious. He liked her a lot.  She wasn’t the prettiest thing on the block, but looks didn’t matter to him.

“Well, dear, do you have talent in a specific in an area?”

“Well, I’m kinda good at pop music.” She offered to the teacher, who looked incredulous.

“Well, Darien is really good at pop, so we’ll test you against him.” She smiled popping a tape in the deck. “Do you like Goddess?” Serena almost laughed.

“Sure.’

“Can you sing it?”

“Of course.”

“Which one do you sing most like?”

“Moon, definitely.”

“Alright, try this one.” Soft music came from the speakers. Raising her voice slightly so they couldn’t tell it was her, she sang the song perfectly. Her silvery voice floated in the air of the music room, stopping conversations immediately.

“My gosh! Serena, you sound just like her! How did you do that?” Darien exclaimed.

“That’s just how I sing. Did I do it wrong?”

“No, it was perfect.” The teacher broke in. “Dear, you belong in this class.” Darien smiled.

“Good job, Serena! Most of the people in here it took three or more times before they were excepted.”

“Thanks.” She smiled shyly.

“Class, please welcome our newest member, Serena Shell.”

“Check the pants! What a dork, she doesn’t deserve to be here!”

“Yeah, She doesn’t even wear make up, what a geek!”

“Serena, we are seated in alphabetical order, so you can go sit by Darien.” The teacher smiled as she sat next to her friend. He smiled.

“I was wondering, would you like to go out for pizza sometime?” He asked sweetly. One of the popular girls snorted.

“What a dork! How could he possibly ask her out when he hasn’t even looked at me!”

“Yeah, really.”

“Don’t mind them, Serena. Their just jealous.”

“I would love to. Thanks” She smiled back.

After the bell rang, she stood.

“I have lunch next, so I’ll see you later?”

“Nope, you’re sitting with me. I have lunch next too.”

“Thanks.” She blushed slightly.

“Here, let me carry those books for you.” He said, picking up her books off the table. “So, what did you do all summer?”

“Mostly just goofed off with some friends. I went to my grandparent’s house too. Besides that, not much. What did you do?”

“Work.”

“That’s it? How boring!”

“Not really. I have a fun job.’

“Really, what do you do?”

“That’s a secret. If you’ll excuse me, I promised a friend I would meet him somewhere.”

“Fine. Thanks for showing me around.”

“No problem, I’ll be right back.” He stepped over into a corner. “Hey, Brandon. What’s up?”
            “Who is THAT?”

“That’s Serena. She’s new here.”

“What’s she doing at OUR table?”

“I invited her, is there something wrong?”

“She’s so…I don’t know… what’s she doing with you?”

“I know…I don’t deserve her.”

“WHAT?????”

“What?”

“Darien, you have the hottest girls flinging themselves at you. Why are you wasting your time with her?”

“What do you mean? You haven’t even met her and your already judging her by appearance?”

“Well…”

“If you’re going to be a jerk. I’m not going to sit around here and let you knock her around.” He turned angrily and sat next to the girl. Brandon just shook his head.

“You seem really popular with the girls, Darien.”

“So?”

“You don’t care? Some of them are really pretty.”

“And snotty, they’re all jerks. They through themselves at me because of looks, but their personality sucks.”

“I hate it when people do that.”

“I agree completely.”

“It’s like, you may marry a girl that’s pretty, but the two personalities don’t get along. It’s a waist of a marriage. I always look for personality, that’s probably why I’ve never been on a date.”

“Well, we’ll fix that after lunch. Do you have any other classes?”

“Not today.”

“Good, me neither. We could go from there.”

“Actually, I would like to drop off my book bag. I’ll run home first.”

“Do you need a ride?”

“No, I just live a few blocks from here.”

“Please, I insist.”

“Well… alright.”

“Good, shall we?” he offered her his hand. Smiling, she took it as he helped her up from the table. Wrapping her arm around his, he led her to the door. Laughing, she stepped out into the sunlight. Looking around, she didn’t see any cars. Looking up at Darien questioningly she asked a stupid question.

“Hey, Darien, where’s your car?” He laughed.

“Right there.” He pointed to a motorcycle parked out in front.

“Cool! I didn’t know you had a bike!”

“That’s probably because I didn’t tell you.” She giggled as he helped her on. Getting on, he wrapped her arms around his waist. She blushed slightly, but held on tight as he revved the engine. Yelling directions over the wind, they finally did make it to her house. Hopping off, she invited him inside.

“Okay.” He smiled, following her in. “Cool place you have Serena.”

“Thanks.”

“My gosh! It’s so clean!”

“I took a whole day to clean up yesterday. When I leave for the summer, the place kinda goes to pot. My mom works as a remodeler, so she doesn’t clean very much.”

“…Then, she was so intent on getting my attention, she tripped over the sidewalk and landed flat on her face!” Serena couldn’t help herself, she burst out laughing so hard she almost fell off her chair.

“Here’s your chocolate shake.” The waiter said politely, setting down a huge glass of brown liquid on their table.

“Thanks.”

“Darien, why did you only get one?”

“Because,” He pulled out two straws. “We’re gonna share it.” She giggled.

“You are being silly.” She teased.

“And you are only making matters worse for yourself.”

“How?”

“You’re being silly, too.”

“Guilty as charged, but it’s fun!” Darien chuckled, handing her a straw.

“Well, just for conversation, what do you think of Endymion?”

“He has a nice voice, but I’ve never met him, so I wouldn’t know.” Darien almost choked on his shake, he was trying so hard not to laugh. “Darien, what’s wrong?”

“Nothing.”

“Yeah, right. Tell me now.”

“Nothing.”

“Darien…” she warned.

“It’s just that…”

“Tell me, I’m dying to know!”

“You have a piece of pizza on your mouth.”

“Where?” she reached up to brush it off.

“I’ll get it.” He leaned over and pressed his lips against hers. Shocked, she pulled back, blushing furiously. “I got it.” he smiled.

“You are such a flirt!”

“I’m sorry, but I couldn’t help myself.”

“Yeah, right!” He chuckled again. “Darien, eat your pizza!”

“I cant!”

“Why not?” She sipped at the shake.

“Because I’m in love.”

“Really? With who?” She looked up excitedly.

“You.”

“What? Why?”

“Because, your funny and smart, your absolutely adorable, and your kind even when people are mean to you. You never throw yourself at anyone.” She blushed.

“Stop teasing me.”

“Who said I was teasing? I was absolutely serious.” She blushed even harder.

“Really, your serious?”

“Absolutely.”

“Darien, I…don’t know what to say.”

“Say you’ll go to prom with me.”

“Um, okay.” She smiled shyly.

“I’m going out of town this weekend, but I would like to get to know you better. Maybe we could do something the week after?”

“Okay.”

“Let me drive you home?”

“Sure.” Offering her his hand, he helped her out of the booth. Walking out the door a glass hither in the back of the head

“Ouch! What the…?”

“Tramp!” one girl screeched, picking up another glass. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she threw another one.

“Hey, stop that now!” Darien thundered at the girl, taking away the glass. “What the heck’s your problem?” She turned and ran out the door without another word. Turning back, he noticed Serena wiping away tears, but they continued to come. “Hey, are you alright?” he asked, helping her up.

“Fine, can we leave now?”

“Sure, come on.” Taking her by the hand, he led her out the door and took her home.

She ran inside as fast as she could, not caring what he had to say to her.  He was left outside by the door, listening to her sobs from inside.  He hadn’t planned on anyone being there to ruin it. ‘She probably hates me now. I can’t believe how jealous people are these days! I’ll make it up to her tomorrow.’ Turning back to his bike, he didn’t see the tear streaked face in the window as he drove off.

Her dreams were plagued by the same as the night before. A man fighting for her, then dying in battle, leaving her to cry over his body. Taking his sword in her hand, she killed herself. Feeling the blade slide through her body, she screamed, waking herself up. She sighed, her body drenched in a cold sweat.  It was the same dream since she had started in the music business.

She had seen the man before, but couldn’t remember where. His eyes even haunted her when she was awake. Getting herself a drink, she began putting on her disguise.

“And now for your morning announcements. Today, fourth hour will be having a decoration-planning meeting for the prom. Anyone wanting to help may come by and lend their services. We have a special treat for you all this year. We have a surprise for you all that will be announced at the prom, so come and enjoy yourselves. That is all.”

Darien looked at Serena, who looked away, not wanting him to see her. Some one poked her on the shoulder and she looked up. A piece of paper was being handed to her under the desk. Picking it up she read it quickly.

Serena,

I’m so sorry about last night. Please meet me outside after class.

                                                            Darien

She walked out with the intent of not stopping for him. A strong arm snaked around her waist and pulled her off to the side. Darien smiled down at her.

“You weren’t thinking of ditching me where you?”

“No, I just think that, well, you should look for someone more your type. No one thinks I’m good enough for you, and maybe I’m not. I’m sorry to have wasted your time.”

“Serena, you are exactly my type! Who cares what everyone else thinks? I love you, and any one that says your not good enough for me is wrong. I’m not good enough for you.”

“Don’t ever say that! You deserve some one better.”

“Who, prey tell, could possibly be better than you? You’re smart and kind and… perfect in every way. And I’m going to the prom with you, not some snot that I can’t stand.”

“But…” His lips pressed against hers before she could answer back. His arm snaked around her waist, pulling her roughly against him. His swift movements shocked her, still, his arms held her from moving. His lips still pressed against hers, she pulled her arms around his neck. Pulling back to catch his breath, he smiled.

“Now do you believe me? Do you love me?”

“Yes.”

“To which?”

“Both.” He smiled.

“I have to leave in a couple hours, come help me pack?”

“Sure, but what about choir?”

“Do you want to go?”

“Yes.”

“Then I will.”

“But what about your flight?”

“It will wait.” She giggled.

“Just for me? Seriously, Darien, you are such a flirt.”

“Only for you.” She laughed again as they entered the classroom hand in hand. He even pulled the seat out for her when she went to sit down. Smiling, he sat down next to her and waited for class to start.

“Class, we need performers for Prom, who would like to try out? You must be five or less to a group. I would like to see Darien and Serena try out along with Clarissa, Melissa, and Jane. If you would like to be on the list, it will be extra credit.”

“Serena, will you try out with me?”

“Sure, if you want to.”

“Imagine, that tramp sing! Ha, I’ve never heard of anything so ridiculous! She probably couldn’t carry a note for more than five seconds!”

“Clarissa, considering she got in on her first try, and you, the third, I wouldn’t be talking.” Darien spat at the snob.  Looking at him she smiled.

“Is this the best you could do, Darien? No one else would go out with you but a scrub?”

“Yes, actually, she is the best. And do you want to know why?” he paused “She isn’t a stuck up snob like you. I could have a girl like you any day, but a true woman is hard to find. I’ve found mine, and she doesn’t judge people for what they are, but for who they are. There are millions like you, but only one like her.” He stopped. “I’m thinking you’re jealous by the way you treat her.”

“Me, jealous of that…SCRUB…not likely.”

“Then sit down and shut your abnormally large trap!” the teacher broke in. “Serena and Darien are you two trying out this year?”

“Yes. Both of us.”

“Good. Now Clarissa, I would seriously hope you try out too, your grades in this class just hit rock bottom.” The teacher finally whipped that snobby look off Clarissa’s face, turning it into a scowl that could kill. Darien almost didn’t stifle his laugh in time. In fact it seemed half the class was in the same predicament.

“Serena, it’s time to go.”

“I know, I’m just day dreaming.”

“Who about?”

“Who do you think Einstein?” She giggled.

“Let’s go. We can eat at my place.”

“How long are you going to be gone for?”

“Till Monday, no later.”

“I’ll miss you.”

“I wont. I want you to come with me.”

“I cant. I have plans this weekend. Call me as soon as you get back.”

“Well, then I am going to miss you.” He brushed his lips across hers briefly before standing up to leave. “Are you going to need a ride home?”

“I think the question there is ‘can I give you a ride home?’ isn’t it?” She asked.” Honestly, Darien, if your going to ask a question, ask it the right way.”

“You know me too well for your own good. But are you?”

“No, I promised a friend of mine I’d meat them in the park across the street.”

“Okay just checking.”

“No, you where goofing around. No get outta here before you miss your flight.” She walked him out to the bike before he kissed her and left. Walking over to the park she heard whistling.

“Ouch, Serena! He is a hotty! How did you trap him dressed like that?” Lita sent cat calls as Mina questioned her friend.

“Serena has always had a way with men, even when she isn’t herself at the time.”

“For your information, Darien doesn’t care about what you look like on the outside.”

“Well, anyway, we dropped by your house before coming and grabbed your suitcase so we could just go.”

“That’s great! Now let’s get moving before they start without us.”

The flight wasn’t exactly boring, considering they were throwing pillows at each other as fast as they could. Mina slapped Lita across the back of the head as Amy and Rei knocked each other down. Serena was in the backroom taking off make up and clothing so she could join in. Pulling off the wig, miles of golden blond hair cascaded down her back in waves. Taking out the contacts, green eyes where replaced with sky blue. She was pulling on some shorts over her bikini bottom when the plane landed. Walking out, she saw the others already out greeting the public.

Sunlight hit her hair, sending rainbows of color running down her back. Waving politely to the group, she stepped off the plane into the parking lot. Dozens of bodyguards swarmed around the young stars as they were led to their hotel. Tonight was going to be the biggest night of the year for musicians. The Musicians Masquerade Ball was being held here and they were going to be the youngest ones ever to go to it.

Picking out suitable dresses that matched their characters, they were led to the ballroom. Serena looked at her best friends in the world. Her gaze was set on Amy first. Wearing a light blue dress that almost looked like ice, it matched her eyes perfectly. Sapphires where set into the top of the dress, shaped like a droplet of water. Rei looked stunning in her flame tipped cote of arms with a fake sword strapped to her waist. Rubies adorned her head in ringlets, falling over her black hair perfectly. Lita was dressed in a short skirt of green. Emeralds where sewn in the shape of lightning bolts. Oak leaves crowned her head like a halo, setting off her green eyes.

Mina was dazzling in an orange long dress with a string of Amber gems across her throat. Serena was dressed in silver white. Her pale face seemed to agree with this arrangement. Her sparkling blue eyes where set off by a slight blue eye shadow dusted across her lids. Masks covered their faces, each in their own respective color.

Walking into the ballroom, they looked in awe at the grand staircase leading onto the dance floor. Arm in arm, they set off together down the stairs. Everyone looked up to see who these mysterious girls where. They were all beautiful, but one seemed to standout from the rest. The one in white, she seemed almost like an angel her hair was like liquid sunlight and she was tall and slender. Some of the best looking girls had their date’s attention drawn to the few on the stairs. The four seemed to crowd around the one in the middle protectively as they hit the floor.

“I can walk!” She wined to the rest. They seemed to respond to her voice, backing away a few steps, but never letting their gaze fall away form her. She stepped over to the punch bowl and sat in a chair next to it, sighing.

A few stepped up to the bowl to get a better look at the beauty, even asking her to have a drink with them. But she declined nicely, not wanting to hurt any one’s feelings.  One after another left in disappointment.

“You are messing everything up.” She turned at the sound of his voice, thinking it was Darien. Unfortunately, it was just another young man.

“How so?”

“These mothers send these girls here to get married, and your ruining their chance.”  He was tall with deep black hair. He had armor strapped around his upper body, even a cape hung from his shoulders.

“How?”

“Look around at all the men. They’re practically dying to get their hands on you.”

“I don’t see why, Beauty doesn’t matter very much to me.”

“I agree completely.”

“All those people throwing themselves at you for money or looks. I hate it.’

“Amen. I hate even going outside for just that reason.” They looked at each other.

“Serenity.” She extended her hand politely.

“Endymion. So you’re that girl trying to steel me throne, hu?”

“Well, I’m going to give it my best shot. No offence.”

“None taken. I’m just glad someone’s trying.” She looked at him questioningly.

“What do you mean?”

“Well, I kinda blew the competition away when I first came in. It’s nice to compete with some one with talent. I love your CD, by the way.”

“Really, thanks. Your not so bad yourself.”

“Well, I’m glad you think so. Are you going to introduce me to some of your friends?” She laughed, taking his arm.

“I would be glad to.” Taking him over to a blue haired girl, she stopped. “This is one of my best friends in the whole world, Athena. She is totally cool with the keyboard. And she’s really smart, I’m kinda jealous.” She laughed.

“I’m sure you’re not so stupid yourself. You did pull this whole thing together.” She blushed.

“You are such a flirt!”

“Thank you.” She laughed again

“I’ll have to warn you about Aries, she’s really hot tempered. I wouldn't want to get on her bad side.”

“Do I want to meet her?”

“Yes, silly. You asked me, remember?” He chuckled.

“Hey, you!” She called over to her friend. “Get over here!” She paused, and whispered “Careful, she’ll throw herself at you.”

“Wonderful.” He sighed.

“Well, well, Serenity, who is your charming friend?”

“Aries, this is Endymion.”

“Well, Endymion, I see your looking well.”

“Thank you. And you Aries.” HE bowed and dragged Serenity with him when he left.

“Sorry about that, she is such a flirt! She drives me crazy.”

“That’s alright, show me around some more.” She laughed.

“You wouldn’t be trying to steal my band, now are you?” He just laughed. “Any way, this is Zeus. She’s pretty cool. And really strong. Zeus, this is Endymion.”

“Pleased to meet you. You take care of her! If she’s hurt by the end of the night, I’ll take it out on you!” she threatened.

“Well, they’re kind of protective of you aren’t they?”

“You have no Idea.” She whispered.” And last but most defiantly not least, Aphrodite. She is totally the coolest and the silliest. Hey, this is Endymion. Endy this is Aphrodite.”

“Serenity, you always pick the cutest dates’ some one ought to slap you.” Endy laughed.

“Well, I’m glad you think so.”

“Sere, keep an eye on this one. He’s crazy.”

“Stop! Your such a goofball!” she laughed as she stepped away. “They are so silly.”

“I’m getting board. Would you like to make some one jealous?” He smiled wickedly.

“I would love to. How?” He instantly dropped to one knee.

“My Lady, I would love nothing more but to dance with thee on this beautiful eve.”

“Of course.” she took his hand, and he led her onto the floor. “What are you doing, you goofball!” she giggled as he spun her around the floor.

“Making people jealous.” He smiled. She giggled again.

“You are such a flirt!”

“Thank you.”

“Look at her, she’s so happy, I’ve never seen her so giddy, well, maybe over chocolate, but not a guy!” Mina whispered to Lita, watching the couple dance.

“I’m glad for her. But what about that guy in the apartments, I hope she doesn’t ditch him.”

“I’m not worried, she has a good head on her shoulders. She’ll know what to do when the time comes to decide. Besides, she’s goofing off. She’ll be fine.”  Lita shrugged.

“I’m not so sure about that.”

“May I cut in?” A voice asked from the side. Endy looked up

“No.” He said rudely.

“Why not?”

“Cant you see we’re dancing, sheesh, some people are soooo rude!” He said as he spun away.

The man walked back over to his buddies. Serena heard their entire conversation.

“So, you actually got turned down. My how the mighty have fallen.”

“Shut up. It was that dork, Endymion.” He tried to imitate his voice. “Did you see her on the news? She’s never even been attracted to a guy. Bet I could teach her a few moves.” He laughed. Serena and Endymion stopped dancing and walked over to the group.

“Hi, I’m Serenity.” She said politely, extending her hand.

“I’d love to.” He grabbed her around the waist, pulling her closer.

“You stuck up little pimp! Let go of me now!”

“What are you going to do, Send your attack dogs at us?” He smiled wickedly. She reached up and slugged him in the face. He fell back, dropping his arm. His hand held a broken nose as it bled all over the floor. He swore.

“Do you think I don’t know how to defend myself? Your just like all the others, stuck up pimp!” She screamed as she stormed out, her band close behind.  Endymion looked down in shock at the boy.

“Shaft for you, dork. You should know better.” He walked out too. Fuming that the guy had tried anything. The girl had been just like Serena till she was attacked. Serena would have cried, but this girl did something about it. He still couldn’t believe she had punched the jerk.

Walking up to his room to change, he turned on the TV.

“We are here live at the musicians ball where lead singer from Goddess was just attacked. Apparently the guy grabbed her and she punched him. We’re heading upstairs to talk to her now.” They knocked on the door.

“Hello?” A voice from inside answered.

“This is the press. We’d like to interview Moon if we could.”

“Just a minute.” The door opened to reveal Serenity, tears streaming down her face. “May I help you?”

“Yes, we where wondering what happened downstairs.”

“That total jerk grabbed me, I hate it when that happens, He wouldn’t let go, so I hit him.”

“Looks like you hit him pretty hard too.”

“Good, maybe now he’ll keep his hands to himself.” The anchor laughed.

“Well, you where seen this evening with Endymion. What do you think of him?” Serena laughed.

“I would like to say he is such a flirt. He’s funny too.”

“So, you like him?”

“What do you mean by Like?”

“Well, could there be friendship there?”

“Probably. He’s really funny. He’s a good dancer too.”

“Last question, do you believe in the legend of Endymion and Serenity?”

“I think you people are getting a little hopeful. I think that, he’s a nice guy, but I don’t think so.”

“Well, sounds great. Lets go across the way and see what he thinks.” A knock sounded from the door. He pulled his cape back on and answered it.

“Yes?”

“This is the press, could we get a short interview?”

“Sure.”

“First question, where you surprised when Serenity hit the guy?”

“Yes, I was.”

“Why?”

“I didn’t think she would. She’s too nice for her own good.”

“So what do you think of her?”

“She’s crazy.  Absolutely insane. But funny and nice, I can’t wait to talk to her again.”

“So your in love with her?”

“I didn’t say that, just that she’s a good friend. Besides, I’m kinda involved with someone already.”

“Tell us who!”

“No.”

“Well, that’s all the time we have for now. This is blah blah blah blah blah blah…” He didn’t even hear what she said next because he shut his door in her face. Sighing, he pulled off his cape once more. He decided to leave early, not wanting to have to sit through all the formalities. Besides, he missed Serena.

“How much longer do we have, Mina?”

“About five minutes, are you sure you want to leave tonight?”

“Yes, I think if I saw that jerk again I’d hit him a lot harder. The press would have a field day with that.” She laughed.

“I can still picture the look on Endymion’s face when you slugged that creep! He was shocked, I swear, Serena you should have seen it!” Lita doubled over on the ground, laughing too hard than what was good for her. Serena chuckled.

“Well, you should have seen his face when I introduced him to Rei, He was scared to death! She was hanging all over him! He almost slapped me for taking him.” Rei pouted in a corner.

“I wasn’t that bad, Serena, look at you. Out on the dance floor goofing off with him.”

“We weren’t goofing off!… We where making people jealous.”

“Same thing! You had way too much fun last night! And what about the hunk by the park?”

“What about him?”

“Your not going to ditch him, are you?”

“What are you talking about? I love him, not some goofball I met last night! Really Rei, I thought I knew you better.” She slapped her friend’s hand.

“Serena, we’d better get going if we want to catch your flight.”

“Coming.” She picked up her bags and headed out the door. The jet was privet, so no one would notice they where leaving. Setting her stuff down, she headed to the back to pull on her disguise. Pulling up her hair, she stuffed it into her wig before coming out as the plane landed. It was well passed midnight, she knew her parents would be worried if she stayed out much longer. Waving goodbye to her friends, she drove home and jumped in bed just as her mother came in to check on her. Midnight was her curfew, so she would have been in big trouble if she had stayed out much later.

Closing her eyes tightly, she pretended to be asleep as her mother opened the door. Closing it softly she smiled at her sleeping daughter. After hearing the click of the door, she looked up and smiled. Tomorrow was Prom.

The nightmare started again. The sounds of battle rang throughout the courtyard. Guards died around their princess’s feet. Monsters attacked from the shadows of the garden. Fifty feet away, the prince was fighting for his life, before a blade ran him through from behind. Crying, she ran out to him, her soft tears soaking his cape as he lay dead in her arms. Tears rolled freely down her cheeks as she mourn over her loves body. Deep blood soaked her white dress, flowing from her prince’s side. In anguish, she pulled his sword from the sheath and thrust it through her heart, falling over her true loves body.

She sat strait up in bed, screaming loudly. The door swung open as her mother rushed into see what was the matter. Serena sat in her bed crying softly into her hands.

“Serena, what’s the matter dear?” Her mother asked, wrapping her arms around her daughter.

“It was that dream again…It was all so real. I could feel the sword, I could feel it. There was blood all over. I was so scared.” She whimpered into her mother’s shoulder.

“Calm down…what dream?”

“Well…”

“Explain it to me, maybe I can help.”

“I’m standing in this beautiful courtyard. I had all these guards surrounding me. But then these monsters’ sprung out of nowhere and started fighting. A man was killed; I must have known him. I ran up to him, took his sword, and killed myself. I could feel everything, Mother, it was so real.”

“Go back to sleep, maybe it won’t come again. Why didn’t you tell me right away?”

“I don’t know, probably forgot about it. Night mom.”

“Night sweetie.” She closed the door behind her as Serena lay back down. The dreams had been coming for a month now. They terrified her, every feeling, every emotion she could feel. Even the footsteps, she could feel every footfall. The blade slicing through her sent chills up her back. The face of her love was masked in the night’s cloak, she couldn’t tell what he really looked like. His eyes where dead, unfeeling. But their blue color haunted her. She had seen those eyes before.

She never did place them, until she slept. His face was always in shadow, but his eyes somehow looked through her very being, down into her soul. They where so familiar it scared her.

The dream started again, but somehow it was different. Though still in the same courtyard, it was peaceful. Looking up, she could see the Earth’s blue orb over head. The smell of fresh roses came to her nose, and she breathed in the scent of it deeply, closing her eyes to smell better.

A sound echoed through the night, coming from the trees behind her.

“Who’s there? Show yourself!” She demanded. A shadow detached itself from the trees.

“It is only I, fair maiden. Please do not be frightened.” The voice spoke comfortingly.

“Who art thou, Sir, that be a watcher unto me?”

“Prince Endymion of Earth. Be not frightened, I come with no ill intention.”

“What intention bringest thou here, Sir?”

“Only that I might look upon thy heavenly countenance, fair maiden.”

“It is not fair, Sir, you know the nights’ shadow cover my face, else a blush paint my cheek.”

“Fair maiden, please forgive me, I meant no offence in what I have said. I do not mean to be a watcher unto thee.”

“Then I forgive thee, thy presence is greater a reward.” She laughed.

“Please, fair maiden, a name?”

“Princess Serenity, always at thy humble service, Sir.” Shock registered on his face. He took a step back, his dark hair waving in the wind.

“Princess Serenity? Art thou not the ruler of this fair kingdom?”

“No, but my mother is, I am too young to be a ruler unto my people.”

“Then please, My Lady, might I stay a while longer in thy beautiful garden?”

“Of course, Sir, Stay as long as it pleaseth thee.” She took his hand in her own

“I thank thee humbly, fair maiden.” He stepped closer. “For thee, though I’m fear its beauty is no match for thine.” He lay something in her hand. It looked like a flower, but she could place what kind.

“A flower?”

“Yes.”

“It is beautiful, what is it?”

“From Earth, We call it rose.”

“I thank thee, never have I received such a beautiful gift.” She said breathlessly, looking down. Not understanding, she hid her face from him.  “But why hath thou chosen me? I’m sure there are plenty of young ladies on your home.”

“But none as kind and loving as thee.” She blushed harder. Crimson stain upon her cheek.

“I thank thee for the beautiful gift, sir.”

“Do you like it?”

“Very much.”

“Then I shall bring an hundred for thee on the morrow.”

“I thank thee for the generous offer, sir, Good night, may thou sleep well on this eve.”

“Wilt thou except my love for thee?” He grabbed her hand and spun her around to face him. She was so close, she could hear his heart beat.

“I will. Wilt thou except mine?”

“Till the day I die.” He leaned over and gently pressed his lips against hers.

Serena smiled in her sleep, but woke up to the alarm clock a moment later. Opening her eyes, she smiled happily, got up, and dressed.

“Well, your in a good mood today, Serena.”

“Would you rather I wasn’t?”

“No, I’m glad you are. Did you have a good weekend?”

“Yes, we went shopping for prom dresses on Saturday. I have the perfect one picked out.” He smiled. She was in too good of a mood, not that he was complaining. He liked it when she was happy.

“Just for me?” He teased, tickling her side. She giggled.

“Of course, silly, who else would I go with?”  He smiled.

“Well, I would ever want you to go with anyone else. I too protective, you know?”

“Not to me, I like it when you are.”

“Good, cause I’m going to be that way till the day I die.” She giggled, but her mind froze. ‘Did he say what I thought he said? It was just like in my dream.’ She shrugged it off as coincidence. “So what would the most beautiful girl in the world like to do today?”

“First, lets try going to class before we’re late.” She smiled.

“Oh, poop. Your no fun!”

“Aren’t I?”

“Well, yes…”

“Good, now lets get moving, I don’t want to be late for class again. I swear, you are going to make me the latest person in class everyday.” He picked up her books and led the way to choir, laughing and talking all the way. The day flew by quickly, the classes all a blur. Tonight was prom, and they where all in for a big surprise.

Serena’s dress was white. Long silken cords of fabric lay around her feet, long lacey sleeves encased her arms gently. Her hair was pulled back into a bun, shining a brownish gold in the light of her room. She sighed as she looked at her reflection. This might be the last…

“Darien, I’ve never seen you so nervous before a dance! What is so special about this girl, anyway?” Andrew straitened the tie on his best friend’s jacket.

“I don’t know, Andrew, I, well she, and…”

“Shut up, Darien, your blubbering. If you’re so nervous about it, then call it off.”

“I cant Andrew, she’s waiting for me. I’m not going to leave her like that.”

“Then get the heck outta here, before you’re late!” He said, shoving his friend out the door. Darien walked down to the car he had parked in front of his house. Sighing he jumped in and drove away.

“Mina, get away from the window, he’ll see you.” She scolded her friend.

“I don’t think I can stand the suspense. When is he gonna get here?”

“Mina, quit blubbering and help me with her hair!” Lita stated rudely. They were best friends, but she hated it when Mina got all gushy over nothing. Mina solemnly abandoned her place by the window, walking over to straiten the wig.

“So your gonna tell him, right?”

“Yes, but I think he’ll be angry with me. I don’t know what I’d do without him.”

“Calm down. I think he’ll understand your reasons. He sounds like an understanding person.”

“But what if he never want’s to see me again?”

“Don’t worry, everything will be fine. And if not…let’s just say things won’t be pretty.” Lita said menacingly, almost growling under her breath. Lights flashed down the street and Mina jumped over to the window to see. A red sports car pulled into the driveway and someone got out.

“He’s here, he’s here!” Mina said excitedly, bouncing up and down.

“Get in the back room, dork. Do you want him to see you?” Lita said angrily pushing her friend through a door, winking as someone knocked on the door. Bracing herself, she calmly opened it. Darien had donned a black tuxedo and was breathtakingly gorgeous. In his hand he held a dozen red roses.

Darien smiled as she opened the door, that is until his jaw hit the floor. Dressed in white, she looked like an angel. Her hair had been pulled up neatly and the stray ends were curled gracefully into her face.

“Is something wrong?” She asked finally. Pulling out of his reverie he smiled.

“No. I just didn’t think you’d be so stunning.”

“Flirt! You don’t look so bad yourself.”

“Well, I’m glad you think so. We’d better get going, though. I wouldn’t want to make you late again.” He teased playfully. Helping her to the car, he noticed something different. He couldn’t quite place it, but he knew it was there. She will tell in time, he thought to himself.

The drive there was a silent one, each engrossed in there own thoughts. Serena’s dream the night before was still fresh in her mind. Each detail came unbidden to her thoughts. Every scream, every clash of weapon against weapon resounded in her mind. Shaking it warily, she tossed the unwanted thought from her mind, only to come back stronger than before.

Some thing was up with her, he could feel it in her gaze. Warily masking each gaze, she had been trying to hide her discomfort. Some thing terrible was flowing through her thoughts, some thing he couldn’t quite put his finger on.  His mind wandered to a dream he had had a month ago. The battle still rang true, every scream he could still remember with terrifying brilliance. He could feel himself lift the sword and attack his enemies’ head on. The thought of his love pushing him forward. He could still hear her sweat sobs echo through his mind, telling him not to leave.

His gaze shifted to the girl next to him, she was shaking her head slightly, nodding away unwanted thoughts as she lay her head on the window. He reached over and brushed a few strands of hair away from her face. She smiled slightly, taking his hand in her own. Looking into his eyes, she knew she loved him.

“Why so solemn?” He asked, concerned

“I don’t know, I’ve just been having this dream lately. I have a hard time getting it out of my head.” She smiled as they pulled into the parking lot.

“Tell me about them.” He parked next to the door quietly, turning to his date. She seemed to be uncomfortable about the subject, but this was something he needed to hear.

“Well, I go to sleep and I’m in this beautiful courtyard surrounded by trees and flowers of all kinds. Out of nowhere guards surrounded the place and a battle breaks out. Most of them die protecting me, but there is one more important than the rest. He seemed to be a prince of some kind, I must have known him. He was killed, but…” She looked up at his face, probably thinking she was crazy. He only smiled.

“Dreams aren’t always what they seem. This one is probably relevant, but what happened after that?”

“Well, I ran over to him, I was crying. I took his sword and killed my self.” She shuddered. “I could feel everything.” She whispered under her breath.

“Don’t worry. I’ll never let that happen.” He said, brushing his lips against hers. Smiling she pulled back.

“Really?”

“Yes, I promise. Besides, I had the same dream.” He smiled. Her eyes went wide with shock. Looking in his eyes, she saw he was telling the truth.

“Are you serious?”

“Would I lie to you?” he asked, somewhat hurt.

“No. I love you.”

“I love you too.” He jumped out, moving around the car carefully, not wanting to get his tuxedo dirty. Opening her door, he reached inside and helped the blonde out. Stepping carefully over the curb, she followed her date inside.  The room was beautifully decorated. Long tendrils of paper where hung from the walls, carefully placed to bring out their full potential. The punch bowl was way too populated with hungry teens, all wanting to taste the food.

Reaching a table, Darien pulled out a chair for her to sit in. She excepted gratefully and sat down, smoothing her dress as she did.  Pulling out a chair for himself, he sat down across from her. He grinned evily, and looked at her.

“Would you like to dance?”

“I’m not a very good dancer.” She lied quickly.

“But you are a fast learner.” He took her hand and led her out to the floor. Taking her gently in his arms, he led her around the floor gracefully. Each drowning in each others eyes, they didn’t see the envy on the guys’ faces as they stared at the beauty. “See, you’re a good dancer. You where just being modest.”

“Darien I need to tell you something…” She was cut short by a hand whipping in front her face. Dodging it easily, she sidestepped the shot. It had been from Clarissa in front of her.

“Tramp!” She screached at the girl, swiping her hand across her face. Serena’s hand flew up to protect her face, feeling the mask was badly cut, sliced from one side to the nose. Looking up, she heard gasps. Faces where turned her way as she looked at Darien. Shock was plastered across his handsome face.  Thick tears streamed down her cheeks as she began to pull of the mask.

“What the?” Clarissa asked, confused. Serena looked apoligeticly at Darien. She mouthed the words ‘I’m sorry’ in his direction.

“Well, I guess my secrets out, hu?” She pulled off another piece.

“What is this, Serena?” Darien asked.

“Please, forgive me… I didn’t think … I wasn’t going to take it this far.” She cried harder. “I’m…Serenity, from Goddess. Darien please, just listen to what I have to say.” She took his arm. “I love you. I did this because I had to find some one like you, who loved for who they were, not what they looked like, or how much money they had. Please forgive me? I would give everything for you, even my life.”

“I…Serena…is that your real name?”

“Yes, it is.”

“Serena, look at me when I’m talking to you.” He lifted her chin with a finger, looking in her eyes. “You changed the color?”

“Yes, I had to.”

“I like them better blue. What did you do with your hair?”

“It’s a wig.” He reached over and pulled it off revealing miles of liquid sunlight piling down by her ankles.

“Well, you must really like that style, you wore it to that ball. I still can’t believe you punched that guy.” He laughed. She smiled through tears. “Do you still think me a flirt?”

“What?” She looked confused. He smiled.

“I was going to tell you earlier, but I never got around to it. I’m Endymion.” Gasps echoed through the crowd. Serena pulled back and looked in his eyes. She only saw truth, she smiled. “This was supposed to be my vacation, but I guess it kinda went down the drain. I love you, no matter what you look like.” He smiled. She sobbed into his shirt as he pulled her closer.

Clarissa stood in the corner alone, watching the couple hug. Sighing to herself, she left and never looked back.

“So do we still do the performance, or do you want to stand here all day? Don’t answer that!” Darien said almost immediately after saying it, knowing what she would say. She giggled and pulled back, wiping away tears.

“Well I guess we should, but my band was scheduled next, how am I going to do that?” He laughed.

“We’ll have to find out once we start. I always wanted to sing with your band.”

“Flatterer! You total flirt.”

“Thank you.” She laughed and dragged him to the stage. Picking up the microphone she tried to say something before cutting it short.

“Well, I would like to say this is the best school, but frankly, it sucked. No offence. Anyway, we tried out in choir and we decided to sing this for you.”

“And now, if Serena will be quiet, we’ll get started.” He teased. Bringing the Mic up to her lips, she started as her wrapped his arms around her and buried his face in her hair.

The way that you

Embrace me with your strong and powerful arms.

Your haunting words

Keep me close

To every thing about you.

Romantic in ways,

In ways that almost tear upon my heart

Can’t let you go

Don’t you know?

Rise above me and be free!

A captive of your gentle hands

A prisoner of your soulful eyes

You’re special smile

You’ll never be apart.

If the morning sun should free me

It really wouldn’t let me go

I’d still be caught inside your love

Can’t rise above

The chains of your heart.

Breaking in half way through, their voices melted together, blending perfectly before Serena broke off and let him take over. Leaning into him, she closed her eyes, feeling his every breath. The words so comforting, she almost fell asleep, but woke up when he finished. Loud claps resounded throughout the room as the couples cheered for them. Serena smiled.

This was what it was all for, the only reason she went into it. She loved to sing, to make people happy because of her voice. It all worked out for her then. Bowing, she picked up the Mic and thanked everyone before continuing.

“Thank you, Thank you. And now for the real treat. My band and I have decided to play here for your senior prom. We’ve chosen a song from our new album that will be coming out in two months, so you’ll be the first to hear it. Now, if Darien will get off the stage…” She teased lightly pushing him towards the stairs. “…We’ll get…” She was cut off when Darien smashed his lips against hers. The crowd went wild.

They kissed again and again as the band set up the keyboard. Mina and Lita looked at each other evilly before laughing. Rei and Ami where completely lost, and looked like it. Rei almost started to complain but stopped herself and started to laugh. Ami just smiled at the couple before turning to her keyboard.

Serena pulled back to catch her breath. “What was that for?”

“Making people jealous.” He laughed. Serena was confused, but then laughed herself as she got the joke. Mouthing the words ‘I love you’ She turned back to her band signaling for Lita to start. Bringing the Mic up to her lips once more she began her newest hit.

Let all the wonders come to me

The fantasy that fills

Fills my heart

I’ll never wonder anymore

For all the love I have

I have for you

Oh, the spirits of the wind

Spread their magic wings and fly

Racing at the speed of light

Through the valleys and the passages of time

When we fell in love- destiny

Now each night will have no end

Our nights will never end

Eternity awaits

You and me

Now that you are here

We’ll never be alone again

Stay with me my love.
